We are about to head out to watch a Ducks football game with friends. College football is SO big in Oregon, it really is a phenomenon.

Black Eyed Susan Bouquet

5 x 7"
oil on canvas on panel
Sold

It's been dipping into the low 40's every night this week, and the remaining flowers in our garden are leaning over and losing their petals. There won't be many more of these Black Eyed Susans to pick before fall arrives in earnest.

Hope you all had a great weekend. September is my favorite month of the year, and this is my birthday-week (it's Thursday), so in honor of all that (and mainly just for fun), I'm starting today's ebay auction at $.01! Happy Bidding.

Japanese Doll with Lily

6 x 8"
oil on canvas on panel
Sold

Well, when I set this little still life up, I knew it was going to be hard - and I was right. The hardest part? The doll's face. Specifically the placement of those delicate little lines that are the eyes.

Orange Lilies in a Blue Pitcher

5 x 7"
oil on canvas on panel
Sold

These are just getting more fun. I love how I don't have to paint every petal to really give the feeling of an exuberant bouquet.

Orange Lilies in a White Pitcher

These lilies caught my eye as I walked into Trader Joe's today. I wonder how many times I can paint these before they die? Stay tuned...

Heirloom Tomato no. 3

5 x 7"
oil on panel
Sold

This is a monster of a tomato. It was calling my name at the farmer's market over the weekend. I've been complaining a lot lately about how expensive food has become, but at least I got double duty out of this one: a painting and lunch!

Larger Work

"Sunflowers on Blue"
11 x 14"

I've been enjoying painting these gorgeous sunflowers so much, that I wanted to use them in a larger, more detailed piece.

Bachelor Buttons

6 x 8"
oil on canvas on panel
Sold

After a short time of struggling to get some more realism into the background, I let it go, and just painted it in a way I thought looked cool. I'm not disappointed with the result!

Heirloom Tomato no. 2

4 x 4"
oil on panel
Sold

We've been eating these heirloom tomatoes with dinner every night for the last three nights. My favorites to eat are the red ones with purple undertones. I don't yet know how this green one might taste, but the colors are beautiful.

Sunflower Bouquet

5 x 5"
oil on panel
Sold

My mother and I were just discussing how much we love this pitcher, so I thought I would paint it again today. I liked painting such large objects on such a small panel - it really helped me simplify the value areas.

Sunflowers in the Light

5 x 5"
oil on panel
Sold

For this painting, I tried to work quickly, with a bristle brush, to capture the quality of light streaming in through the window. I like using bristle brushes once in awhile, because it forces me to stay loose. I feel that I've been getting too tight, even strangled in my last few pieces. Today's painting was difficult to photograph - all the thick paint strokes were sending up lots of reflections - so unfortunately it appears a little duller than it should. I don't like to have to make excuses for my photography, but I literally tried everything with this one, and this was the best I could do.

Orange Flowers in Green Glass no. 3

5 x 5"
oil on panel

I'm happy today because I was finally able to order some more painting panels from Twelve Oaks Studio Supply. I really enjoyed using the first batch I ordered, and I'm glad he is offering them for sale once again.

Summer Bouquet no. 2

5 x 7"
oil on panel
Sold

I had the pleasure last night of watching David R. Darrow's live painting show on Ustream for the first time. I've watched Susan Carlin paint on Ustream twice before, and I must say that both artists are very talented and entertaining. Check them out if you get a chance. You might just see me lurking there as well!

...And yes, this is a brand new green glass bottle!
