Red Teapot on Pattern

6 x 6"
oil on panel
Sold

My first painting of the red teapot in 2010! Have I mentioned before that I'm in love with Le Creuset? Maybe I will try painting some of my Le Creuset pots and pans someday, instead of just the teapot and pitcher. But then the ramekins and the trivet might feel left out...

Purple Tulips

6 x 8"
oil on canvas
Sold
We are having an early spring in this part of the world - and I can prove it right here! Last year, these tulips from my mom's yard weren't up until the first week of April - see them in my painting from April 7th, 2009.

Bowl of Green

11 x 14"
oil on canvas
Sold

I've been using this cardboard box under most of my setups lately - sometimes it makes it into the painting, sometimes not. Last night I decided to revel in its boxiness to the extreme by including the barcode sticker. I'm sticking by my decision (no pun intended) - that's what art is, after all - making decisions and sticking by them. At least until that particular painting is finished. You can always make new decisions with the next one.

I always listen to podcasts while I paint - it's kind of like Tivo for NPR. Here's a new one I just started listening to: PRI's Selected Shorts podcast. It's an hour of short stories, read by famous actors.

Green Apples

8 x 10"
oil on canvas
Sold
These apples are so smooth and shiny. I know that's because the stores put wax on them, which is totally unappetizing, but it does make them fun to paint.

Red Onions on Patterned Cloth

3 x 3"
oil on canvas
Sold
I have a painting on one of these miniature canvases hanging in our downstairs bathroom, next to the sink. It's been a great conversation piece, which you wouldn't really figure it would be, being in a bathroom - but most of our guests do end up seeing it that way!

The first two onion paintings (see 'em here and here) are now on display at Imagine Gallery on 8th in downtown Eugene. So, for all you locals, stop in and see my work in person when you head down to get your fresh veggies next month at Saturday market. The gallery is right next door.

Yellow Tulips and Irises

9 x 12"
oil on canvas
Sold
I've been waiting for a new shipment of art supplies to arrive. I love the feeling of opening a huge box of blank canvases - not to mention getting my hands back on some things I've run out of, and been trying to function without, like Liquin. I never thought I would come to be so dependent on Liquin, which is a painting medium that helps oils dry faster - but I use it all the time. I've been mixing a lot of it into the first layer of my paintings, and then using stand oil as the medium in the second layer. Since I'm working on most paintings over multiple days now, this technique has been good to experiment with.

Peach Roses

11 x 14"
oil on gallery-wrap canvas
$150
$10 s/h

I had a lot of fun painting the foliage and the stems inside the vase. The actual flowers were kind of hard, but I accomplished my goal in this piece: to play up the contrast between the fleshy, peachy colors in the roses and the silky blues in the rest of the composition.
